• The Basics of Mini Baccarat

If you love gambling Punto Banco but not up to the high roller stakes involved, then switch to mini baccarat.

Mini baccarat is a spin-off from the regular baccarat game. Thus you will find mini-baccarat rules to be almost exactly like the regular baccarat rules except for two things. One, only the casino dealer deals the cards in mini baccarat. Two, the maximum bet limit is lowered to $25 (in most tables) and even less. Minimum bets are also lowered. Three, the game is played on a table that resembles a blackjack table.

To play mini baccarat, first the player has to place a bet on any of the three squares labeled Banker, Player, and Tie found on top of the table.

Then the dealer places down two sets of cards referred to as Player and Banker. There should be 2 cards per hand.

The aim of mini baccarat is to have a hand total of 9. All cards in baccarat have face values, save for 10, J, Q, and K which have 0 value. Ace cards have the value of 1.

Now, if no hand has a total value of 9 or 8, a third card will be drawn.

Drawing of third card in the game is governed by the following conditions:

    1. A third card will be drawn to Player hand if its total is 5 and less.

    2. If Player doesn't draw, Banker will get a third card if its sum is 5 and less. If it's total is 6 and up, no further card is to be drawn.

    3. However, if a third card is drawn to the Player hand, a third card may be drawn to the banker.

    4. A third card will be drawn to the Banker if its total is 4 and the Player's third card is 2 through 7.

    5. A third card may be drawn to Banker if its total is 5 and the Player's third card is 1 through 3 only.

    6. If Banker's hand has a total of 6, a third card will be drawn only the Player's third card is 6 or 7.

    7. No third will be further drawn to the Banker if its total is 7.

In mini baccarat, if the value of the hand reaches two digits, only the right digit is read or considered. For instance, if Banker has 5 and 9 (equals 14), Banker has a value of 4. If Player has J and 4 and 6 (equals 20), its hand value is 0.

To win, there must be a match between the hand with value closest to 9, and the hand that the player has wagered on. If the hand values of Player and Banker are the same, bets on "Tie" win.

The payoffs for Banker and Player are 1:1 while Tie pays 9:1.

Again, since only the dealer deals cards in mini baccarat, the game is played at a much faster pace than regular baccarat. So if you love fast-paced baccarat gambling, and if your bankroll's not for high roller bets, then mini baccarat's the game for you. In mini baccarat, bet small, play more!
